Collection: Soup, Cereal, Pasta & Fruit Bowls

HLJ at Home carries a selection of soup, cereal and fruit bowls from manufacturers such as Denby, Mikasa, Midwinter Stonehenge, Pyrex, Dansk, Biltons, Ironstone Broadhurst and more. Although they may look the same and it would be very hard to distinguish which is which, there is a difference between soup, cereal and fruit bowls...but the distinction is very small. What separates soup and cereal bowls from fruit bowls is the size.  Quite a bit of the time you would have to take a measuring tape to determine the difference...others are fairly noticeable. It is all based on how the manufacturer whishes to size them.

Most soup or cereal bowls will be deeper and wider to ensure that liquid is retained in the bowl and to avoid spillage.  To complicate things a tad further, formal dining soup bowls tend to be a bit shallower as the soup course tends to be a fairly quick dinner course and the need for the soup to remain hot for extended periods is not required.

Soup and cereal bowls range in diameter and depth and can be as much as 7" in diameter and 2-3" in depth. But it all depends on how the manufacturer wishes to add to certain collections. Most dinnerware sets will include soup bowls versus fruit bowls or formal soup bowls as they are more versatile and are have larger production runs.
