The word casserole can describe a type of cooking style where food is layered or mixed in a single dish and baked slowly in an oven or stove. An array of ingredients that may include meat, vegetables, pasta or rice as well as a liquid like broth, water or other flavorful liquid. You can use these dishes to bake these ingredients until cooked with the flavors and food that you chose combining and forming into a succulent, hearty and delicious meal.

Baking and casserole dishes are those items that are staples in your kitchen and cookware. The range of use includes baking, braising, cooking and storage as well as serving and display.  There are several sizes of casserole dishes, usually measured in quarts, ounces or fluid measurements.  The shapes range from rectangular to oval to square and round.  The volume is also dependent on the shape of the dish as some are shallow while others have a deep profile. 

Most casserole dishes will have some type of pattern or design emblazoned on them. These rage from country kitchen graphics to retro or vintage colors to a bevvy of patterns and shapes.
